Frame Innovation Book

Frame Innovation is the book which the design thinking class discussed mostly due to its content about how to design process. We talked about all the chapters in different group and moderators. Frame Innovation is a book explaining new methods on how to design think and create. Starting with what design process is and what makes it hard, continuing with how to develop and ending with creating a frame model to problem solve.

In the first 2 chapters we discussed about the challenges that design processes face and the fact that we do not solve our problems. What it means by not solving our problems is the fact that we try to solve what the users or the world specifies as a problem to them. The challenges of a design process is the open, the complexity, the dynamic and network of the problem itself. After identifying these problems we talked how to simplify those challenges and what is behind these problems. We then go on to the case studies solved by pioneers and how they saw the challenges and solve the problems. In the 3rd and 4th chapters we start with 4 lessons we learn from design by starting answering 4 question about what we understand from design and the problems and paradoxes coming from them. Furthermore we talked how to create a frame creation model and the lesson we take from design and the reflection before we create a frame model. In the 5th and 6th chapters we talked about the general principles to problem solving like attacking the context , suspend the judgment, embracing complexity etc; considering what these principles mean to us and our personal experience. While we kept discussing we saw how the book simplified every step and organized every thought and problem to the frame creation of problem solving. Making a new way of approaching to problem defining, solving and design thinking. It all started to look more easier after creating kind of a web of how these connect to each other. Continuing with the 2 last chapters is the 3 challenges of frame innovation. As you may already know, innovation is defined as a new idea or product; while by frame innovation we saw that were new ideas of how to approach to a design challenge. As for the frame innovation, seeing things different, thinking different and acting different cause the challenges of frame innovation because people seem to be indifferent to the things happening outside of their box. We see difference as something scary and not approachable. The novelty in the design process was analysed and continued to make it happen , the last phase of frame creation. As we talked we saw that our design thoughts has changed and started to think how will we approach to our design projects and problem solve our challenges. This book simplified our future problem and learned us the steps of how to be a better designer and how to have an open minded and to desire and like the change and innovation.
